Zesco United coach Mumamba Numba says the team will shake off their ABSA Cup disappointment by fighting to win the league.
In an interview after seeing six-time ABSA Cup winners and defending champions capitulate at the final hurdle in the 2021 edition at Woodlands Stadium, Numba said attention will now fully shift to the league title where his team enjoys a health seven-point lead.
“A disappointing result on our part, we came into this game wanting to lift the trophy and defend it, unfortunately that has not happened. The team accounted for themselves very well, we are happy with the performance, but we just must look to the league now since we have lost the cup final,” he said.
“This is a game that we dominated, we created numerous chances which we could not convert and that what resulted in us getting a barren draw. When it gets to penalties anything can happen that is what has happened. We were not good in taking our penalties and Lusaka Dynamo did their best and took theirs well.”
Zesco United lost 3-1 to Lusaka Dynamos on post-match penalties after the match ended 0-0 in normal time.
Dynamos lifted their debut ABSA Cup trophy Botswana international Mothusi Cooper winning the Man of the Match prize.
The ‘Elite’ squad walked away with K600, 000 for their prize while their coach Wedson Nyirenda was named Coach of the Tournament and pocketed K25, 000.
Nyirenda sealed his reputation as a cup specialist with his already envious record of winning trophies in South Africa (Baroka FC) and Mozambique (UD Songo).
