A member of the Ghana parliament Patrick Boamah has urged the nation to withdraw from their upcoming encounter with familiar foes Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana was paired with Nigeria in the playoffs fixtures of 2022 World Cup Qualifiers fixed for March 24-29th, 2022.
Patrick Boamah who lack confidence in the team after the abysmal performance in the 2021 AFCON seeks the withdrawal of the Black Stars from the World Cup qualifiers for the nation to be able to build a strong team.
“If need be we should dissolve our national team and prepare a team over the next five years,” Boamah said on the floor of parliament in a discussion of the Black Stars’ underwhelming performances in Cameroon.
“We should not waste our time playing Nigeria in the next World Cup qualifier.
“Look at the team Nigeria has, even though they are out of the tournament I don’t think with this current set-up, we can stand the Nigerians.” He said.
Ghana crashed out in the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations without a win while Nigeria who won all their group games could not make it past round 16.
Ghana will host the first leg of the 2022 World Cup Playoffs with the return fixture set to take place in Nigeria a few days later.
