Akwa Ibom State Government has begun the renovation of the 10,000 Capacity Uyo Township Stadium.

Uyo Township Stadium which is the oldest Stadium in Akwa Ibom State is taking shape with artificial turf being laid while Seats are also being fixed at the stands.

The renovation work is courtesy the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration in Akwa Ibom State.

For many years, the Uyo Township Stadium served as the pride of Akwa Ibom. It was the home ground of the local club, Akwa United. It also served as an event ground for the Christmas carol celebration, which draws people from all parts of the state and some tourist attractions for residents. All these are now gone.

The stadium was abandoned after the inauguration of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in 2013 by the then Governor.

The State now have three stadiums, namely Godswill Akpabio International, Eket and Uyo Township Stadiums.
