According to pictures posted by Nigeria Football League which is credited to Biodun Owoborode shows that Works has commence on the 55,000 capacity National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos after works were halted last year due to unforeseen circumstances.
At the National Stadium, Surulere, civil works are ongoing, preparatory to the re-asphalting of the athletics track.
While work is progressing steadily on this, the pitch maintenance is also ongoing; considering the prevailing dry/harmattan season.
For over 17 years now, Lagos National Stadium has fallen into a state of decay following its neglect. The last major football tournament held at the stadium was the Four-Nation LG Cup in 2004, which Senegal won, beating Nigeria 1-0.
Both MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja and National Stadium Surulere were awarded for renovations in 2019.
The MKO Abiola National Stadium has been completed and will host it’s first international game when the Super Falcons of Nigeria takes on Ivory Coast in the 2022 AWCON qualifiers next month.
