World Football Governing Body, FIFA, has selected 18 referees from the African continent to officiate the Qatar 2022 World Cup slated in November/ December later this year.
A total of 36 Referees, 69 Assistant Referees and 24 VAR Referees were selected at this year FIFA World Cup in Qatar With 6 Referees, 10 Assistant Referees and 2 VAR referees selected from the African continent.
Four of the 6 Referees selected are among the 10 referees who officiated the African Qualifiers of the 2022 World Cup Playoffs in March 2022.
Rwanda Referee, Salima also make history as FIFA selected female referees for the first time in the men’s World Cup’s 92-year history.
Stéphanie Frappart (France), Salima Mukansanga (Rwanda) and Yoshimi Yamashita (Japan) are the three female referees that will have the chance to officiate during the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Leading the list of Africa’s finest match officials to handle games at the global soccer jamboree is Gambian referee, Papa Gassama, others are South African Victor Gomez, Rwanda female referee Mukangasanga Salima.
Algerian Mustapha Ghorba, Zambian Janny Sikwaze and Senegalese Ndiaye complete the list of African referees for Qatar 2022.
The 22nd edition of the World Cup will start in Qatar, Doha on the 21st of November 2022.
