The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Draw took place today in Sydney, Australia, with the results determining which of the two groups of the Women’s World Cup 2022 each of the twelve teams will compete in.

The draw results shows that Belgium, China, USA, Korea,
Bosnia and Herzegovina and a yet to decide team (TBD) will compete in group A.

In group B, France, Canada, Australia, Japan, Nigeria and Serbia will battle it out for a place in the quarter finals.

Based on the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike, and for the purpose of the draw, the twelve teams in the competition were divided in two pots with the six highest ranked teams in Pot 1 and the other six in Pot 2.

Teams competing in this year’s World Cup, tipping off September 22, are Australia, Belgium, USA, Canada, China and France in Pot 1 while others are Bosnia and Herzegovina, Japan, Korea, Nigeria, and Serbia in Pot 2.

Following FIBA’s decision on Russian teams, the draw will feature a team “To Be Determined” (TBD), which will be drawn without geographical restriction. The Central Board will determine in due course the team from the Washington/Santo Domingo Qualifying Tournament that will participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022.

Four teams from each of the two groups will advance to the Quarter-Finals and the Final phase.

Nigeria the only sole representative from Africa reached the quarter-finals in 2018 where they lost to the eventual champions USA.
