The Banyana Banayana World Cup journey has ended after a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands at the Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, Australia.

First and Second halves goals from Jill Roord and Lineth Beerensteyn were enough to send the 2019 finalist to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

South Africa who beat Italy to reach the knockout stage for the first time conceded in the 9th minute as Roord heads home from close range through the corner.

The Dutch who topped a group that contained the defending champions USA, got their second goal through a error from South Africa goalkeeper.

Despite an early exit from the knockout stage, Kgatlana and the South Africa team will be proud of reaching this far in their second World Cup appearance.
