Algeria Extends Offer to Host Palestinian Soccer Matches Amid Escalation in Israel-Gaza Conflict.

Algeria has extended a generous offer to host all matches involving the Palestinian national football team and cover all associated expenses, as the Israel-Gaza conflict continues to disrupt the team’s preparations and participation. The Algerian Football Federation issued a statement on Monday, confirming their commitment to stage both official and unofficial matches linked to the Palestinian team’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup, bearing the financial burden associated with these events.

This initiative, contingent on approval from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), materialized following a formal request made by Jibril Rajoub, the head of the Palestinian Football Federation. The first of these matches is scheduled for next month when Palestine will “host” Australia in Algeria on November 21, marking a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Palestine is currently positioned in the World Cup Asian preliminary qualifying Group I alongside Australia and Lebanon. Additionally, the 2023 Asian Cup, set to commence in January, includes Palestine in its lineup, where they are slated to face the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Hong Kong in Qatar.

Algeria has a longstanding history of supporting and expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause, with Algerian footballers and fans consistently showing their backing for Palestine. Notably, during the ongoing conflict, several Algerian footballers have displayed solidarity with the Palestinian people during their national team’s matches. This altruistic gesture from Algeria stands as a testament to the enduring ties of support and unity between the two nations.
