Nigeria Club, Enyimba Football Club of Aba has come out to clarify the issue behind Innocent Jersey during the Quarter-Final of the African Football League in Uyo on Sunday night.
Nigeria and football fans blamed Enyimba for embarrassment yesterday, But the Aba-based club Enyimba said they are not, being blamed, but rather blame CAF for mistakenly registering the player as No. 3 instead of 5 which he plays.
Since the player can only play with the official number registered by CAF, Enyimba had to get a blank jersey and handwrite his name for him to play.
“Innocent has been playing as No. 5 throughout the CAF Champions League qualifiers. But before the match yesterday, they discovered that CAF registered the player as number 3 for the Africa Football League, they had to get a blank jersey and handwrite his name and number”.
The Aba Elephants face elimination from the African Football League after they went down to a 1-0 defeat against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.
The reverse fixture will take place this week on Wednesday in Casablanca.
