The Zimbabwe Mighty Warriors has commence preparations for back-to-back 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers against Botswana.
Post the opening day’s training sessions, coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda observed that players’ fitness levels are still low, but expects rapid improvement in the coming days.
“The fitness levels are low, but with the first day of training done, they are showing that they will have improved in a few days,” she said.
Only two of the 26 locally-based players called up for the assignment have not yet turned up. Dinah Banda is away in Zambia for trials while Egness Tumbare is still expected to join soon.
“It’s a good turnout [because] it’s very difficult when there is no league running to get the players together.
“We are happy about the response from the clubs,” she added.
The first leg will be played in Harare on 18 February and the return on 23 February in Francistown.
The winner of this round will qualify for the AWCON finals to be played in Cameroon in July.
Four foreign based players, namely Rudo Neshamba, Emmaculate Msipa, Berita Kabwe & Danai Bhobho will join on the 14th when the international break begins.
